It must also be remembered that there are many groups that practice polygamy under the misconception off claiming to be Mormons when it is very specific that the Mormon church banned polygamy and it is most definitely not part of their doctrine as of today. In fact any member found practicing polygamy is automatically excommunicated from the Mormon church. So one has to really put the blame here for keeping polygamy and the Mormons in the same category on the media and not the practices of the Mormon religion.
When it comes to marriage it should be remembered also that the Mormons have a little bit of a different look at what marriage really means in the Mormon religion and marriage is considered a sealing that lasts for all eternity.
