Spyderco Knives Offer Wide Variety Of Innovative Cutting Tools

Spyderco knives are very popular among hunters, campers, outdoorsmen and knife collectors due to their versatility, durability, dependence and beauty. This brand of high-quality cutting tools was established in the late 1970s and they have since become synonymous with innovations in the knife industry. All these knives are ergonomically designed after decades of cautious research and development and undergo thorough testing to ensure optimum performance.

Even though, it is possible to find a wide range of these knives crafted for various purposes, this brand is most well-known for their folding knives. This one handed operation is accomplished by their trademark round hole in the blade that is present in every one of their folding knives, giving them their characteristic and unique appearance. The brand also came up with the added feature of the handy pocket clip that is featured on most of their folding knives. The brand is renowned for innovations such as these and so much more including two patented proprietary locking systems.

These folding knives can be found either with a plain edge, a partially serrated edge or a fully serrated edge known as the ‘Spyder’ edge. Based on the intended purpose of knife, you can also find them in diverse blade steels and handle materials. The most common handle seen on many Spyderco knives is the Fiberglass Reinforced Nylon (FRN) handle and is available in arrangement with several different edges, weights, colors and styles.

Many Spyderco knives are renowned for their survival, tactical, training and rescue knives and are favored by fire and rescue personal, law enforcement officers, self-defense instructors and private citizens as well. ‘Salt’ is their special line of water-friendly knives that are made of 100% rust free H-Steel and can be used for fishing and other activities in and around water. ‘Byrd’ is a special collection of knives that have been designed and imported from China as a lower cost alternative to their premium folding knives. These multi-purpose knives are all available for purchase along with a warranty against any defects in the materials and workmanship. It is highly recommended that the knives are suitably maintained by ensuring that they cleaned, sharped, lubricated regularly and stored in a dry state.

How is a Bowie Knife Different From a Hunting Knife?

Bowie knives are hunting knives, aren’t they? This is a common question. However, bowie knives aren’t technically hunting knives – they are multipurpose tools. Hunting knives are usually very specific in their intended use. For instance, a gut hook knife is intended for an obvious purpose. Likewise, a skinning knife is used for skinning and doesn’t perform very well for other uses. Bowie knives, on the other hand, can be used to skin, gut, chop, cut and numerous other things.

First, standard hunting knives tend to be designed for a single use. Take the skinning knife for example. These have long, slim, razor-sharp blades. They are powerful tools when used for their intended purpose (skinning animals). However, how do you think that blade would hold up if you tried to chop with it? What if you encountered a bone or tough sinews? Would the skinning knife be able to handle the increased pressure and abuse? Chances are the knife would not be suited for any purpose other than skinning.

Now, a bowie knife on the other hand, is designed for many different uses. Originally, the bowie knife was designed for personal protection, as well as general-purpose use in camping, hunting and fishing. This is why the blade is so large and thick – it has to be to deal with such a wide variety of different uses. While you will find that specialty knives do a better job in their very specific field, a bowie knife will outperform other knives, simply because you can use it for such a wide range of different things. You can skin with them, chop brush, gut fish, chop vegetables, cut through bone and more.

You’ll also find that bowie knives have very different shapes than other hunting knives. While all bowies share the clipped point design (you’ll find this on some hunting knives, too), you will also find a few other features. Some bowie knives have a Spanish Notch on the blade that can be useful when hunting or camping. Some knives also have saw-teeth on the blade’s spine, though some users find these cumbersome, annoying and even dangerous in some circumstances.

Choosing to purchase a bowie knife over a hunting knife is an excellent decision. This will ensure that you are able to use your knife in almost any situation and that you will not suffer the limitations brought on by a single-use type of knife.
