Online Dating Increasing In The UK
Online dating sites have quickly become extremely popular in the United Kingdom over the last decade or so, and a recent report suggests its popularity will continue to grow.
Comscore, an internet monitoring and research company, reported a 16% rise in online dating use in the UK two months ago, and recent reports suggest that increment has risen to around 20% since the Comscore report was put out.
It’s an interesting statistic considering the worldwide dating market is considered to have dropped, although it’s only by a tiny percentage.
So what it is about online dating that makes it so much more popular in the UK?? It could be that the British people, as a whole, are either less confident about instigating personal interactions. Or it could be that they are more socially aware, which makes them more nervous about a potentially socially awkward situation.
Alternatively, it could be because of the drop in the use of dating sites in America. With the market in America dropping, a lot of the bigger online dating sites are putting more money and effort into advertising in the UK. If you’re living in the UK it’s likely you’ve seen this shift already, with a much higher percentage of adverts on TV and online for large American sites.
Another reason could be the widespread use of the internet and social media in particular amongst young people in the UK. Far more couples in the UK are meeting via social media or online dating sites, particularly people in younger generations, removing the stigma attached to such sites and making them far more socially acceptable.
