The peroxide safely cleans and polishes the surface, but make sure it's wiped off all that way or else it will look foggy. I use it with a rag and old toothbrush because it's softer and doesn't scratch it up. Do NOT use dish soap because it will break down the elements. Baking soda does not work as well on my silver, but others swear by it. Can't think of a gold solution, but if I can remember, I'll let you know. For silver, toothpaste is the best option.
