Around Bill Britt – there are income predictions galore.  I was involved actively as an Amway distributor from 2002-2005, and during this time I travelled to several major events where Bill was a keynote speaker.  I heard income speculations ranging from ridiculous to outrageous.  (The highest rumors were upwards of $300 million annually).  (As a special note – this is not an income claim, as I have no affiliation whatsoever with Amway – I’m just saying that no one really knows how much he makes – except that it is probably A LOT.)

In the MLM profession – the loyalty of Bill Britt’s business is unsurpassed.  For example, in 2005 I attended an event called Free Enterprise Day in Long Beach, California where Bill Britt was the keynote speaker.  The room roared with applause as he walked on the stage, and when he spoke they were all silent – with tape recorders running and notes flying.  He was revered as an icon by everyone there – almost like I imagine the pharaohs of ancient Egypt were worshiped – it was EXTREMELY interesting to watch from a detached perspective.  I think he talked more about religion and politics than he did about Amway, which didn’t surprise me that much because I had been going to Amway events for 3 years – and they all do that.

The methods used by Bill in building his business are those of traditional Network Marketing – Home Meetings, Hotel Meetings, and Weekend Events.  Primarily, the foundation for his business was laid in the late 60′s.

In addition to his Amway business, Bill Britt also has one of the largest and most profitable personal development companies in the world, called Britt Worldwide.  Britt Worldwide distributes seminars, tapes, books, cds and coaching to millions of entrepreneurs in the Amway organization.  Estimates at his income from his personal development tool business range up to 90% of Bill’s total income.

Bill Britt belongs to a world of the past – he preaches a godly government, limited government intervention in our personal lives, family values above all else – and oh, I almost forgot that he occasionally mentions Amway.

Taking a look at Bill’s business objectively, one has to admire what he accomplished – however it seems as if a great deal of his business strategies have become out dated over the last 15 years, and his Amway business went through a time of struggle.  This is because of not adapting 1970′s strategies to a space age marketplace.

I joined Amway in 2002 (when they were flying the Quixtar flag) and I struggled for 3 years doing absolutely EVERYTHING I was told by my upline sponsor.

As a result, I quit and designed my own business systems which I find more efficient in building a business today (I spend less time today than I did during those 3 years, and make five times the income).  However, there are some important insights we can learn from Bill Britt.  The biggest insight however is this:

The financial possibilities of building a prosperous MLM organization are virtually unlimited if you do it right.

In short – Bill Britt is nothing short of an icon in American business.  Think what you may of Amway – this man has done something quite remarkable and we can all learn a thing or two from his success.
